READING ENDORSEMENT

Why Get a Reading Endorsement?

The purpose of obtaining a Reading Endorsement is for educators to further their understanding of and expertise in teaching reading at the K-12 level. A Level I endorsement prepares classrooms teachers to better teachers of reading in their own classrooms. A Level II endorsement prepares teachers to become reading specialists or reading coaches at a school or district level. Both Level I and II reading endorsements cover the reading process and reading instruction from grades K-12.

Taking Courses at the University of Utah

You may take the courses required for the reading endorsement in one of two ways:

1. Apply as a non-matriculated student through the University Admissions Office. Once you have been accepted to the school, you must contact Teaching & Learning's Graduate Academic Program Specialist in order to register for graduate level classes.

2. Apply to Teaching & Learning's Master's of Education in Reading program. You can earn either the Level I or II reading endorsement at the same time as you earn your M.Ed. degree. Click here for more information about our master's program.
