Mission
The mission of the College of Education is to create a learning environment that fosters discovery and dissemination of knowledge to promote learning, equitable access, and enhanced outcomes for all students. Through the integration of outstanding teaching, research, and community outreach, the College of Education investigates significant issues impacting education policy and practice, while preparing its students for leadership and excellence within a diverse and changing educational community.

2004-2009
1. Advance Research Productivity
a. develop a college level research productivity infrastructure that assists, facilitates, and promotes faculty scholarly productivity.
b. seek increased fiscal support for faculty research and student fellowships and assistantships.

2. Enhance Instructional Quality and Productivity
a. promote the development of interdepartmental and interdisciplinary program initiatives including:
(1) cross-department practitioner doctoral program
(2) cross-departmental participation in initiatives promoting reading and literacy
(3) cross-departmental participation in initiatives promoting the enhancement of student learning (e.g., through technology, assessment, and data management)
(4) cross-departmental participation in initiatives promoting social/cultural education and safe schools
b. maintain assessment efforts designed to improve the quality of teacher education programs and to disseminate information to enhance our state, regional, and national reputations
(1) maintain student, program, department, and college assessment needed for successfully meeting national program approval and accreditation needs
(2) select and implement new National Accreditation/State Program Approval System
3. Increase and broaden fiscal resources across multiple funding sources
a. expand efforts to seek selected outside teaching, research, and related educational grants and contracts
b. maintain and expand established college fund raising activities (e.g., phonathon, direct mail solicitations, etc.)
c. expand and diversify college fund raising activities by developing a major gifts college strategic plan
d. expand college outreach activities that serve our community and constituencies and provide graduate assistantships, and research opportunities (e.g., AP Institute, Gear-Up Grant, Daybreak School Community, other credit and noncredit instruction)
4. Increase Faculty and Student Diversity in order to develop a more multiculturally diverse learning environment within the college
a. intensify student recruitment initiatives to under-represented groups, particularly at undergraduate levels (e.g., Teaching Professions Academy, Gear-Up, U of U disciplinary departments, SLCC)
b. aggressively seek faculty of color candidates when faculty vacancies arise
c. enhance scholarships for diverse students
5. Enhance the Work Environment by renovating and expanding Milton Bennion Hall, including technological upgrades, by partnering with the University in aggressively seeking funding from state, private, federal, and internal sources.
