Naomi Watkins
Graduate Assistant

Naomi Watkins is in her second year of the Teaching & Learning PhD program with an emphasis in Literacy. She received her B.A. from Brigham Young University in English teaching and her M.Ed. from Arizona State University in language & literacy. Naomi taught middle school English and language arts in Arizona and high school English in Utah. At the University, she has worked as a secondary cohort leader with the Granite/Jordan cohorts and is currently working on a research grant with Drs. Liang and Dole, plus teaching undergraduate literacy courses. Naomi's research interests include reading comprehension instruction in the middle grades and children's and adolescent literature, particularly in regards to informational texts.

Having grown up in the San Diego area, Naomi enjoys the beach and water sports. Additionally, she enjoys hiking, camping, snowshoeing, reading non-school books, napping, eating out, and spending time with friends and family. She also plans on learning to play the guitar and perfecting her knitting skills.
