The Department of Teaching and Learning
The Department of Teaching and Learning focuses on the professional development of educators of culturally and linguistically diverse students through pre-service and graduate programs. Reflecting our position as a Research I institution, emphases within the program include providing national and local leadership through research, teaching, and community outreach. The focus of our leadership is to support the success of students who have traditionally been underserved in schools, teacher development throughout their careers, close connections to schools and community organizations, and the use of technology in teaching and learning.
The Doctoral Program provides an interdisciplinary approach to literacy studies. This is a collaborative program joining the Departments of Teaching and Learning, Educational Psychology, Special Education, and Linguistics. The program combines basic research in reading and writing processes and applied research in education along with opportunities to engage in rigorous laboratory and field-based research.
