David Quijada

David Alberto Quijada holds a Ph.D. in Socio-Cultural Studies in Education with a designated emphasis in Feminist Theory and Research from the University of California, Davis. Quijada has taught Mathematics in the public schools, worked as a Gang Alternative Specialist, and has been involved with several non-profit community coalition-building projects. His research interests and areas of specialization include: inter-cultural/ethnic youth alliances and identity formations; youth culture; community coalition-building projects that develop across race, class, gender and sexual orientation; feminist ethnographic method; and critical discourse analysis. Quijada is committed to becoming a better ally to youth by working directly with youth. He believes in teaching and research that is interdisciplinary; that re-orients assumptions about race, class, gender and sexual orientation, that thinks critically about our lives, the lives of others and how we are positioned in society. Quijada has taught courses in Ethnic Studies, Critical Multicultural Education, and Qualitative Methods. He is looking forward to developing and teaching courses in Youth Studies that explore Popular Culture and Intercultural Alliances.
