Assistant Professor in Education and American Indian Studies
The Department of Education, Culture, and Society and the Ethnic Studies program at the University of Utah invite applications for an Assistant Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Education, Culture, and Society and the American Indian Studies program. The Department of Education, Culture, and Society is a cross-disciplinary group of scholars committed to social justice through the study of race, class, gender, and sexuality in education. The American Indian Studies program is part of the Ethnic Studies program. Its faculty span several departments and engage in research and teaching on various aspects of race and ethnicity in the United States. Along with American Indian Studies, Ethnic Studies includes African American Studies, Chicana/o Studies, and Asian Pacific American Studies.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in an appropriate field. Specialization is open, but preference will be given to applicants with research and teaching expertise in indigenous epistemologies, Indian culture, and multicultural education and with a research interest in the preparation of American Indian teachers and the issues Indian students face in public schools. Teaching will include graduate courses in indigenous epistemologies and Indian education in the Department of Education, Culture, and Society and undergraduate courses on the American Indian experience in the Ethnic Studies Program. Applicants must combine a knowledge of American Indian culture and history with research expertise in Indian education and the preparation of teachers to work with Indian students.
